Immigration Orientation Services
Immigration Orientations are conducted by ISSS advisors at the beginning of each semester (Fall, Spring, Summer A/C and Summer B) for new and transfer international students. You are expected to attend even if you have previously studied in the U.S. in F-1 status at another school or if you have previously studied in the U.S. in another status (H-4, A-1 etc.) and are now changing status to F-1 or J-1.
The information presented in these sessions is extremely important and if you are unable to attend for any reason, you will still be expected to know and understand many federal immigration regulations pertaining to F-1 and J-1 status as well as several policies and procedures specific to FIU and the ISSS office. If you have missed the Immigration Orientation offered for your admission term, or if you attended Orientation but still have doubts or concerns, consider making an appointment with an ISSS advisor, especially if you have specific questions or an unusual circumstance.
