International Peer Mentoring Program

Starting at a new university — and in a new country — can be an exciting experience, but it can also come with many questions and adjustments. The International Peer Mentoring Program connects new international students with experienced FIU students who can provide guidance, encouragement, and a friendly connection as they begin their journey at FIU.

Through the program, students can build meaningful connections, learn more about FIU and the Miami community, ask questions in a welcoming environment, and feel more confident navigating university life.

Whether you are an experienced FIU student interested in supporting others or a new international student looking for connection and guidance, we invite you to become part of the International Peer Mentoring Program.

Remember what it felt like when you first arrived at FIU or began navigating a new university environment? Now you can help make that transition easier for someone else.

International Peer Mentors are current FIU students who help welcome and support new international students as they adjust to life at FIU and in Miami. Mentors serve as a friendly point of connection, share their experiences, introduce students to campus resources, and help mentees feel more comfortable and connected to the FIU community.

As a Peer Mentor, you can:

  • Support new international students during their transition to FIU
  • Develop leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
  • Gain meaningful volunteer and leadership experience
  • Connect with students from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Make a positive impact on the international student community

Who can become a mentor?
Current FIU students who have been at FIU for at least one year and are interested in supporting new international students. The program offers a flexible commitment of just a few hours per week.
