All international students and scholars in F or J non-resident visa at FIU are required to have medical insurance, as mandated by FIU's admission policy, Florida's Board of Governors and the US Department of State. Adequate medical insurance coverage must be demonstrated at all times during enrollment at the university or participation in an exchange program.

FIU-approved international student & scholar health insurance policies are available for purchase which meet these requirements. Please note that ISSS does not assist with purchasing medical coverage, you must contact the provider directly!

International Students

All international students in F or J status are required to have medical insurance that meets Florida Board of Governors and FIU requirements before registering for classes. Students who do not meet this requirement will have an insurance hold placed on their account. REGISTRATION HOLDS (also known as Service Indicators) WILL NOT BE CLEARED UNTIL YOU COMPLY WITH THE MEDICAL INSURANCE REQUIREMENT. WE CANNOT MAKE EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.

For more information on how to meet your insurance requirement visit the university's Health Compliance website.
